Yunmu (韵母)are the final sounds of hanyu pinyin. There are 6 basic yunmu a, o, e, i , u , ü and the rest of the yunmu are derived (or starts with ) one of the 6 basic yunmu.
Generally, the pinyin for most words have both the shengmu and yunmu. However, there are cases where the pinyin for a Chinese character is made of up just yunmu. But this is not true for shengmu. We do not have any pinyin for any word that is made up of just sheng mu.
Basic yunmu (韵母)
These are one of the first 韵母 that students will learn : a, o, e, i , u , ü. These 6 yunmu (韵母) are the basics as they are made of just one letter. These yunmu can combine with other letters to form more complex yunmu.
